Studio Kirkit

Kirkit is a weaving tool used to compress the weft yarn in rug weaving in Anatolia. Mehmet Orel spent the inspiring years of his childhood in his grandfather's workshop and saw art and craft together. As a designer and artist; Inspired by the transformative structure of kirkit, he has designed Studio Kirkit as a platform and narrative language where furniture and decoration find a whole new meaning. Orel is very inspired by the materials used in the art deco design approach and reflecting luxury and the search for soft forms of the art nouveau period. He was also impressed by the way Agust Rodin created works in different pursuits by going outside the molds, and he respectfully watched the works of iconic sculptors such as Brancusi, Noguchi, as well as designers such as Jean Michel Frank, Eugène Gaillard and Carlo Bugatti. Continuing his research and production on different art disciplines, the artist met the sculptural furniture designs of the designer Barlas Baylar and had the opportunity to work with him. Throughout his business life, he has also prepared collections for many famous companies in and out of the country as a designer. Orel, who combines soft lines with a flashy and hard material concept, has established Studio Kirkit as a design studio that aims to provide users with different experiences in their own spaces rather than a furniture company.
